Heybrook Lookout Accomplished Jan. 9, 2010

If you are interested in a quick 1hr hike with a good thigh burn, Heybrook Lookout is just what you need. With just just little over a mile and a 900 foot gain you climb quickly  through dense forest to a lookout tower.

Just about 1/4 mile from the top the tower comes into view.

Lake Serene & Bridal Veil falls (#1068) Accomplished and Survived 8-22-09

We started out hopeful that day. We were looking for a good day hike, now that Washington had finally cooled down after a 2-week hot streak. BOY, we were in for a surprise!
Lake Serene is a 7.2 mile round-trip hike, not including the little 2 mile jaunt to Bridal Veil Falls, with an elevation climb of approx 2000 feet. Lake Serene is a gorgeous breathtaking, lung gasping hike. Not for the faint of hearts, that is for sure.

The photo the the left is just the beginning of the continuous stairs you will encounter while on the 3.6 mile 2,000 ft. CLIMB UP to the lake.

About 3/4 of a mile into the hike to the lake, signs will point you towards Bridal Veil Falls. Its 5 miles round-trip with a 800 foot gain.

Helpful Resources

You can find tons of great hiking books at places like Barnes & Nobel or Amazon.com. There are so many hiking books to choose from, that it can be a bit overwhelming trying to decide which is the best book. I simply spent an hour thumbing through different ones until I found a book that pertained to the area I knew I would be hiking the most.
There are also great websites to help search for hikes. WTA is a great free site, listing trial information as well as fresh trail reports posted by other hikers. Trails.com is another great resource. It will give you basic information, however for more detailed trail info there is a small annual fee of $49.95.
We also encourage any hikers to please buy a $30 annual Northwest Forest Pass.

Our Next Hike, Little Si, Sunday March 21st.

We are hiking Little Si on Sunday. Would love for anyone to join us. Little Si Trail is the little brother to Mount Si, which is up I-90, just outside of North Bend. Little Si is approximately 3.5-5 miles roundtrip with a elevation climb of 1,500 feet. I have a great app on my Droid for hiking. So I will be able to get the actual distance traveled and feet climbed.
We will update this blog with pictures and our story after we return!
